Everyone wants a great deal on a vacation, and especially a great flight. Many travelers are fed up with the big airlines and are switching to leaner, more efficient and typically less expensive airlines. Skybus is one example of a new cost effective airline that hopes to lead the pact. In fact, many in the industry are speculating that Skybus could be the flight of the future.

Skybus recently started booking reservations and so far, seat sales are exceeding expectations. To entice new customers to try out the airline, they are offering a minimum of 10 seats on each flight at a paltry $10 per ticket. That amazing offer will surely get customers checking out the deals.

According to the Skybus website, the airline veterans who started the Skybus revolution had gained experience controlling costs at low fare carriers like Southwest and Ryanair. They feel that they know how to contain costs and to offer everyday low fares on nonstop flights.

The planes they are using are the new Airbus A319 jets with approximately 150 (or more) leather seats. They have chosen their routes carefully and are flying to less congested airports (further containing costs).

The management team recognizes that customer service is what keeps travelers coming back and as such they have hired pilots with a proven track record and are training both their in flight crew and airport staff to deliver an unparalleled customer service experience.

Beyond the customer service focus, they’ve contained costs by automating everything possible. For example, customers will book their own flights online; they will check themselves in online or at a Skybus kiosk at the airport and then head to the gate. By limiting reservation agents and staff at the airport, they can really keep things clean, simple and cost effective.

Another way they are leading the pack is that customers pay for what they use. For example, your first two bags cost $5.00 each, any bag beyond that is $50. Skybus execs recognize that it costs more to handle bags (and slows things up) so they charge those people that need that service. Like many other airlines, food and beverages are available onboard for a price. You also have to pay for blankets, pillows etc.

Skybus hopes you will give them a chance to earn your business. The Skybus experience will give you low cost flights, flights that usually arrive on time, bags that won’t get lost and an experience that is easy and friendly.

If you are a budget minded traveler, the new Skybus sounds like a dream come true. Why not book one of their inexpensive flights and combine that with accommodations from 89DollarTravel.com. At 89 Dollar Travel, you have an opportunity to visit some of the most interesting locales in the United States and stay at hotels for 3 days and two nights for a mere $89. Two of the most challenging aspects typically are dealing with a foreign language and getting used to a new currency.

As for the language thing, it’s a great idea to learn some key phrases before you go. As for currency, we hope that these few tips will help you be prepared to deal with foreign currency the next time you are traveling abroad.

Before you leave for your trip, print off a conversion chart showing different amounts of the foreign currency and what they equal in your native currency. For example, 100 pesos equals approx. $9.30 US, 250 pesos equals approx. $23.25 US and 500 pesos equals approx. $46.50. By having a chart easily accessible to you, you will quickly be able to figure out how much things cost and you won’t overspend!

Consider using credit cards instead of cash. Credit cards are very convenient and you will find they are accepted in most locales throughout the world. They are very convenient with their buy now, pay later benefits. However, it is important to note that you will pay a higher rate of exchange than if exchanged US currency into the foreign currency.

Another idea is to bring the equivalent of a few hundred dollars with you to cover you for the first few days of your vacation. After that, use ATMs for the remainder of your foreign currency. Check with your bank before leaving to see what your fees will be for withdrawing from foreign ATMs.

If you will be traveling to many foreign countries during your travels, you may want to invest in a pocket sized electronic currency converter. Having an idea of the exchange rates in all the countries you are visiting will really help you make better decisions when purchasing services and goods from local vendors. You can usually pick up a good model for under $100.

Due to high rates of counterfeiting, Travelers Checks aren’t as widely accepted as they once were. You do get piece of mind in that they are replaced if lost or stolen, but we have found that they can be difficult to cash in some countries.

Another important consideration is how much currency you will need. In some countries, it can be difficult, if not impossible to change the currency back into U.S. funds. This isn’t a big deal if you are only left with a few dollars at the end of your trip, but it can be concerning if you have 20,000 Russian Rubles left. So, budget carefully and take out money as you travel.

Your best bet is to do some research on the foreign currency before you leave and try to ascertain a reasonable expectation as to how much money you will need. Being prepared before your take your cheap vacation can help you save money and avoid spending more than you need to!

Here we discuss the top three best airlines and the three worst airlines!

Best Airlines

Singapore Airlines – This airline is consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. It is lauded for its smooth check in process, friendly and helpful staff and in flight amenities. Seat comfort, blankets and pillows are also rated high on this airline. Overall, you typically cannot go wrong choosing Singapore Airlines for your travel plans.

Cathay Pacific Airways – One of the biggest compliments of this airline is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Passengers generally feel that they go above and beyond to make sure your flight is comfortable. On board products are also rated very high so you can be assured of a comfortable flight – no matter where you are going!

Malaysia Airlines – Malaysia airlines gets high marks for going throughout the cabin on a regular basis offering snacks and drinks and picking up garbage from guests. Travelers also remark that the cabin staff is top notch as they are enthusiastic and provide efficient service.

Worst Airlines

Air Koryo – This State owned airline of North Korea receives poor marks for old aircraft, mediocre food, and cramped seating. In flight entertainment and the cabin presence throughout the flight have also rated low.

Afriqiyah Airways – This airline, based in Tripoli Libya has a poor reputation for staff attitude and friendliness, and economy class check in service. However, many travelers state that the cost of flying on this airline is low, and they feel that the lack of service and perks is fine given the low cost fares.

Yemen Airways – Low marks have been given to this airline based on poor language abilities of flight staff, lack of presence of cabin crew throughout the flights and the poor check in service. In addition, many passengers have complained of lack of legroom and mediocre food.

When you are paying several hundred dollars or more to fly to various destinations around the world, you should expect a certain level of service. The top three airlines are proof that you can operate an airline with a heightened sense of service and amenities and still be successful. If you are the type of traveler who is wooed by low prices, it is important to remember that service standards will likely be lower as well.

If you would like to vacation a little closer to home, and perhaps bypass the flying thing altogether, I would suggest traveling with 89DollarTravel.com. For a mere $89, you can enjoy 3 days/2 nights’ accommodations in a variety of fabulous and cheap vacation destinations around the United States.

Whistler, British Columbia Canada. Even though you’re probably familiar with Whistler as a killer destination for skiing and snowboarding, you might not realize that it has an amazing restaurant and club scene. Buffalo Bills is the king of all nightclubs in Whistler and fun music and an upbeat crowd guarantees an incredible time by all. If smoking cigars and living the high life is more your style, peruse the upscale Mallard Lounge and Terrace in the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. For some risqué entertainment, The Boot Pub is the place to be.

Scottsdale, Arizona. From the chilly slopes of Canada to the hot deserts of Arizona - Scottsdale is a trendy place for bachelor parties interested in golfing. An amazing 200 golf courses offers the perfect places for guys to bond over their golf swing. For steaks and beers to chill after a great game, head to Kona Grill or party at Axis/Radius a popular spot in downtown Scottsdale. Babes Cabaret is the place to go for ‘female’ entertainment.

Chicago, Illinois. For the baseball bachelor, a Cubs game is an ideal way to go.
South Beach, Florida. In South Beach, you can’t beat the women in bikinis, the amazing beaches and some of the coolest nightclubs in the U.S. Why not have the bachelor party at Nikki Beach Club, called one of the sexiest places on Earth. Other hot spots include Priv, Amnesia, Wax, and Liquid. Another popular place for bachelor parties is the Clevelander – conveniently located in the middle of the club hopping area. For exotic dancers you can’t beat Club Madonna.

Las Vegas, Nevada. Of course, you cannot have a list of hot bachelor club destinations without mentioning the king of all hotspots – Las Vegas.Choose from women doing acrobatics on wires above a packed dance floor, the Rum Jungle dance club; Rain in the Palms Casino Resort and of course the Hard Rock Hotel.

Some people are naturally adventurous and automatically book vacations that include adrenaline rushes like skiing down black diamonds or scuba diving in shark invested waters. However, the less adventurous among us are now booking extreme vacations to spice up their vacation travel!

Here are five great affordable extreme vacation ideas that you can take in the United States!

Cross Country Bicycling Touring – A great way to see this amazing country, cross-country bicycling can be undertaken either on your own or as part of a tour group. Booking with a touring group is a great option because they take care of all the details like bikes, overnight accommodations, bike adjustments, meals, transportation and support staff. Be prepared to bike 60 to 80 miles per day!

Shark Diving – Considered extremely extreme, shark diving involves you getting into cage and receiving detailed instructions as to what to do. The fact that sharks cannot be controlled is what makes shark diving dangerous and exciting.

Drag Racing – Ready to have your heart feel like it is about to come out of your chest? Then why not sign up for one of the many drag racing or racecar driving schools that abound throughout the country.

Heli-Skiing – Like the thought of being dropped from a helicopter onto a pristine mountain just waiting for you to coast through the gorgeous powder? Of course, you must be a top-notch skier because this extreme vacation isn’t for the novice. Many skiers books heli-skiing vacations because they are lured by the promise of untouched slopes, wilderness solitude and challenging terrain. Alaska offers some amazing heli-skiing opportunities.

Stunt Vacations – You may never have thought about a stunt vacation before, but if you think of yourself as a bit of a daredevil, you might enjoy getting a taste of the stunt person life. Imagine car chases, burning buildings and free falls like those seen in your favorite action movie. Las Vegas and other theme parks in the U.S. offer vacationers the chance to complete real stunts.

Extreme vacations can be a great way to add excitement to your next vacation. We highly recommend a packing checklist so that you don’t forget any of the important items and it will help you eliminate a lot of ‘just in case’ impulsive items. You can start this checklist at any time, just be sure you start jotting it down at least one week before leaving. Remember to consider everyone you are packing for if there are family members involved in the trip. It helps to get children involved in packing so that you aren’t faced with the dreaded ‘why didn’t you pack it’ while when you arrive at your destination.

The Master Checklist
Here are our suggestions for the important items you need for your next summer or winter vacation. As you pack them in your suitcase, be sure to check them off…

One gallon or two gallon Ziploc bags to adhere to the new liquids rules that the FTA has imposed.

Small bottles (3oz or less) of your toiletries. You’ll be packing in advance so you’ll need extra sets of your important toiletries.

Travel alarm clock.

Luggage tags (ones that are colorful will help you identify your suitcase at the airport carousel.

Mentally dress yourself from head to toe in different outfits, to suit the different activities you will be doing. Whether you need a ballroom dress or your scuba gear, it is important to think about what you will need.

Try to choose items that will work for you in a number of settings – that way you aren’t just packing for one occasion (although it may be difficult to pair your scuba flippers with anything else!)

Don’t forget your camera and all attachments (case, batteries, charger, etc.)

One to Two Days Before Leaving

Now it’s time to pack – remember to place heavier items at what will be the bottom of the suitcase when you carry it. Now layer in the rest of your smaller items, working up from the bottom. Slide your toiletries into the middle of the suitcase, where they have the most padding. Lastly, lay your larger clothing (pants, jackets, coats) over the top of the pile of items you have in your suitcase.

Before you close your suitcase, 89DollarTravel, recommends putting personal identification on top of the pile of clothing, along with a copy of your itinerary or airline schedule. That way, if your outside tags are torn off, the airline will open your luggage and locate the information you’ve provided to help them identify the owner.

Another smart idea is to adhere cable ties to secure the zippers on your bags. These are no problem for security to cut off and will be difficult for anyone else to remove.

The cable ties are far securer than those cheap locks that came with your suitcase and will be a surefire way for you to know if someone was in your suitcase.

Items To Carry in Your Carry On Luggage
Of course, you should bring a copy of your passport and place it somewhere like your carry on luggage (i.e. somewhere different from where you are carrying your original passport). Bring enough prescription drugs for an extra week (keep it in the prescription bottle and carry a copy of the prescription with you). Carry your health insurance card and contact information for your health insurance provider. Always carry a camera!
