Besides, bear in mind that there’s another thing you might want to conserve on: calorie consumption. And that’s only after one or two meals.

Of course, if you want to think beyond the food, you can consider taking a three-day 89 dollar trip, while focusing on maybe one or two extravagant meals as you travel (just make sure that you take advantage of the increased activity to burn those calories off!) Why not put that $89 towards a great time in Orlando, Vegas, or Hershey Park?

BurnoutDid you know that thousands of United States residents never use up their company-allocated vacation days? In the fast-paced American society where competition is fierce for those bonuses, recognition and power, travel is often pushed to the bottom of the priority list. Have you encountered people who have not taken a vacation in years? I know I have. Are you one of them?

Hopefully, the undesirable winter weather has passed over your hometown and your neighboring cities and states. Now, anticipate the warmer weather that is around the corner. Make a resolution to focus on your well-being and start planning for a vacation. Here are a number of benefits for you:

Vacations allow you to reduce your stress. When you travel, you are detached from the environment that you feel obligated to. Therefore, you can de-stress and relax. Once you’re at your desired location, you’ll likely have an enjoyable time and be able to reduce the burnout that you might have been on the verge of when you were at home. It’s a definite change in scenery and your responsibilities can be put aside as you have the time of your life!

Roller CoasterConsider that traveling is just simply exciting. Excitement may come in the form of a new travel destination, new places to visit away from the monotony of everyday life at home, and you’ll feel a surge of energy as you visit unchartered territory and make the most out of it. Above all, it is therapeutic to take a break from our daily routines. If your travels take you to Wisconsin Dells, you’ll have the time of your life in the excitement-packed Mount Olympus Water Park.

Traveling gives rise to increased activity. Unless you’re spending your entire vacation soaking in rays on the beach, you’re likely going to explore the surroundings at your chosen destination and participate in a variety of activities that help you get off your butt. Opportunities for activities are endless, from walking to sightseeing to swimming to biking to hiking to boating to horseback riding to water skiing to playing tennis or golf… hey, are we there yet?

Food DishYou get to experience interesting food and cuisines. Vacations give you a break from the food you are accustomed to eating at home. Depending on where you go, you can get a sampling of some of the best Indian, Asian, Southern, Mexican, or Mediterranean dishes, among other delicious and different foods. Vacationing affords you the opportunity to break away from routine and taste more eclectic dishes. In Hershey Park, you can try… well, lots of tasty chocolate! (Just be sure to offset that weight gain with some physical activity!)

You will meet new people. Traveling is an excellent opportunity for you to meet people from throughout the world and to expand your horizons. Furthermore, socializing is great therapy. Consider the opportunities that you’ll have to socialize with new people when sitting at a blackjack table in Las Vegas.

Have I convinced you to book your trip yet?  If not, go ahead — you only live once!

There is no southern city in Florida historically rich as St. Augustine, FL. Founded by the Spanish in 1565, St. Augustine is must-see city for any traveler and has been a recommended location in Patricia Schultz’s book, “1000 Places to See Before You Die.”

There are many popular attractions in St. Augustine, but here is a sample of the ones we liked most:

Spanish Fort in St. AugustineThe Fountain of Youth: When discovering Florida in 1513, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon was actually looking for this legendary spring that reportedly restores the youth of anyone who drinks its waters. The Fountain of Youth is located in an archaeological park with many attractions, including a Planetarium, the ancient Indian village of Seloy, a reproduction of the Salt Cellar, which was a gift to Ponce de Leon from Christopher in commemoration of their voyage across the Atlantic, and re-enactments of founding of St. Augustine. Expect to see a lot of pirates on the grounds!

The Potter’s Wax Museum is the oldest wax museum in America. You can find the likes of Tiger Woods, Michael Richards, Angelina Jolie, and Johnny Depp inside. Over 170 famous people, including presidents, explorers, artists, actors, and composers have been “reproduced” in wax form at the Potter’s Wax Museum.

The Cathedral of St. Augustine is a National Historical Landmark. This cathedral features Spanish Mission architecture, a Spanish Renaissance style bell tower, and was constructed in 1797. Within the walls of the church, you will find replica paintings from the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican.

If you can’t believe it, you might want to visit the oldest Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, an “Odditorium” which is located in the Castle Warden, a famous former hotel in St. Augustine that used to host many famous guests. Because of the success of this particular museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum opened additional locations throughout the country, including in Branson, Missouri, and throughout the world. This location is rumored to be haunted, so it’s great fun for the entire family.

The World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine is a unique gallery featuring the golfing achievements of both men and women golfers. As of October 2006, 114 renowned golfers are showcased in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Your trip to St. Augustine features tickets for two to this venue.

The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse in the United States also happens to be located in St. Augustine, which was built in the early 1700s or prior (the exact date is undetermined). This school happens to be the first “coeducational” institution. Today, this Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse is a theme-park attraction where children receive make-believe diplomas as a souvenir for their visit.

Finally, St. Augustine is a nature lover’s paradise: within the confines of the Anastasia State Park, visitors may find wildlife, birds, and plants. The park is broken into a variety of settings, including a tidal salt marsh and beach. Visitors can participate in numerous water sports or walk on several nature trails on the Anastasia State Park campgrounds.

This is just a little of what you could do on your affordable and historical St. Augustine, FL vacation. If you desire to learn more about the history of this country, St. Augustine is a must-stop on your United States historical adventure.
